Synagogue Offenbach

1997
Offenbach, Germany
DESCRIPTION

The Synagogue in Offenbach am Main, the first synagogue to be built in the German state of Hesse after the Holocaust, was inaugurated in 1956. An important spiritual centre for the city's Jewish community, the sacred space was redesigned and expanded in 1997 according to plans by the community chairman, the architect Alfred Jacoby. Brian Clarke created a programme of stained glass for this development, which is integrated within the architecture.
